Companions for Living Raises $2,400 for the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut Chapter

The “Not So Newlywed Game” event was held on Thursday, May 14 at Playhouse on Park in West Hartford

Five local couples married 50 years or longer put their togetherness to the test as Companions for Living presented “The Not So Newlywed Game” on Thursday, May 14 at Playhouse on Park.  When the competition concluded, Alan and Cookie Beresner of West Haven emerged victorious.  However, the Alzheimer‘s Association, Connecticut Chapter was the big winner of the evening.  The event attended by nearly 100 guests raised $2,400 in support of Alzheimer’s care and research.  Companions for Living is a home care company specializing in companion, personal and specialized memory care services for older adults.

“This was our 6th annual ‘Vino and a Show’ benefit for the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut Chapter,” said Julianne Roth, founder and president of Companions for Living.  “I’m pleased to report that this year’s event, ‘The Not So Newlywed Game,’ raised $2,400, which is a 29% increase over last year.”

The Not So Newlywed Game theme was based on the popular TV game show, The Newlywed Game.  The live event exposed the entertaining moments of married life with a funny dose of honesty, as couples who have celebrated their golden anniversaries or better were pitted against each other.  Along the way, audience members learned and laughed about the couples’ courtships and quirks.   The show was captured by West Hartford Community Television and will be available soon for viewing (check for program listings on the website, www.whctv.org).
