WEST HARTFORD, CT – On Sunday October 13, 2019 at the Hartford Walk to End Alzheimer’s presented by the Alzheimer’s Association – CT Chapter, Companions for Living is sponsoring the Promise Garden, a hands-on activity that engages participants to promise to remember, honor, care and fight for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. The Walk will take place at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field, 615 Silver Lane, East Hartford. Companions for Living is also sponsoring a team of walkers at the event; to join or donate to the team, visit www.companionsforliving.com and click on the Walk to End Alzheimer’s banner on the home page.
Companions for Living (CFL) is a Greater Hartford home care provider whose caregivers are certified to provide specialized memory support services for older adults and their families. CFL enables older adults and disabled individuals to remain at home safely and independently.
“We are pleased to partner with the Alzheimer’s Association – Connecticut Chapter and proud to sponsor the Promise Garden at the Hartford Walk to End Alzheimer’s for the eighth consecutive year,” said Julianne Roth, president and founder of Companions for Living. “The flowers, which are personalized with hand-written messages, highlight the personal motivations that people have for participating in the Walk and collectively create a colorful and meaningful garden.”
Through color, the Promise Garden flowers represent the diverse reasons participants have gathered. Blue represents “I have Alzheimer’s.”; Yellow: “I am supporting or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s.”; Purple: “I have lost someone to Alzheimer’s.”; and Orange: “I support the cause and a vision of a world without Alzheimer’s.” Participants are encouraged to take the flowers home as remembrance of their Walk experience and their promises made.
The Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for care, support and research. Alzheimer’s is the nation’s sixth leading cause of death. The walk is held annually, and more than 600 communities participate across the country.
